DAMNED STATEMENT

Statement

I never tire of talking about my art until someone requires an exhaustive explanation of my subject matter and why it is I paint. I paint from the visions in my head that intuitively express dark overtones of monsters and uncertainty through a mostly surrealist view. It is my intention to reveal the beautiful ugly side of life that has no boundaries, and I hope to usher forth a unique vision and voice that is still unheard in the world of art. When I exhibited in Venice, Italy, the event was set-up very much like the DAMNED show, so in my head I kept making references and comparisons to each. Since Italy fathered the renaissance and the Greco-Roman era, amongst others, I expected a higher caliber event than what I usually see here in Detroit. Ultimately, it was not as well done in Italy as here in Detroit. My takeaway was that what we do here in Detroit is world class and often rivals what's being done anywhere in the rest of the world.
