DAMNED STATEMENT

Statement

It was on a dreary night of November, that I beheld the accomplishment of my toils. With an anxiety that almost amounted to agony, I collected the instruments of life around me, that I might infuse a spark of being into the lifeless thing that lay at my feet. -Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein- In choosing how to best express my life experience as an artist it might very well be the words above. From my youngest memories to the matured eyes now viewing the world one common feeling has always existed, Wonderment. To live without such a feeling, to engage in the act of creation without it I believe is the ultimate demise of an artist. Every new project and endeavor of success or failure, (Both being relative) should be saturated and enveloped in awe and amazement. What will exist with next stroke of the wrist? I have always desired to be free from any specific format, style or medium in my artistic endeavors. Choosing to drift to where the creative vibe or inspiration moves me. I have found the arenas of Pyrography, Acrylic Painting and Found Art tend to be mediums most visited. I believe showcases like the Damned Show are particularly great venues to be a source of inspiration for trying new things due to the wide range of talent and pieces on display. I can only speak for myself on the overabundance of positive personal experiences attending the Damned Show. As a three-time artist being featured, each year has been filled with anticipation and excitement for not only the event but for the chance to engage with old friends, meet new ones and network in a truly unique setting. I have been fortunate enough to be involved in various types of art shows over the years in different cities and states as well as curating my own. That said, the creative team that conceives and executes this production every year are blessed with an exquisite gift of vision and design. One can obviously tell the care and thought that goes into the development of this show every year. During the past three years I have presented a piece created specifically with the Damned Show in mind. Challenging myself to not so much out do what I had presented the year before but to covey an artistically symbolic example of comprehension, technique and ability as well as a sense of personal spiritual growth. I will opt out of revealing any of my own interpretations on the artwork displayed, allowing the viewer freedom to conjure one's own journey into imagination.
